The Beginning of Beautiful
It could’ve been the red door … or the fancy knocker … or
simply the stately façade of 237 that first nabbed our attention. The interior shots on Zillow were less than
promising, however. Thanks to an open
mind and vision (not to mention the generosity of Daddy!), we jumped at the
opportunity and signed the paperwork on the last day of January 2018.
The first estimates were frightening.
They far exceeded the “high” estimates found Googling local prices. What to do?
More estimates …
Enter Anthony Owens Remodeling– front and center. They were recommended by our stellar real estate agent - Tyler Mackintosh Brennan (of Mackintosh fame). Tony, the boss, proved to be a fount
of information – especially when it came to naming local subs. Hope was restored, and sanity was once again within reach.
Wasting no time, we contacted the roofer. Luckily, he was able to swing by within
minutes (a perk of having local subs). Meet Andy – nice, genuine, and
filled with good news! In his opinion, a
new roof is not necessary … at least not now.
He feels sure we’ll be dry for five to seven more years with repairs
only. Good news, indeed!!! (Postscript ... the cost for repair and the price for new were close enough to justify spending a few extra to cap the house off with a fresh chapeau.) PPS: Since his initial visit, a sizeable hole appeared courtesy of the neighborhood Welcome Wagon ... a family of squirrels! They have since been transported to their country home.
The other referrals will come by in a few days to offer
their thoughts. Waiting patiently …
frightened a bit … anxious … and frankly, excited to breathe life back into a
place filled with a troubled past (thanks to Newspapers.com and a curious mother). It
deserves better! Not to worry ... the sage bundle and feather are ready for detoxification!
