Be Still My Heart

This project is already overwhelming … and it has just begun. Calm down! Much has happened since the inking of the contract thirty-four days ago. Yesterday’s initial post was stale… just a lot going on in a young life! So many things and not enough time. Here’s a quick catch up … Rounded up the perfect team – local, polite, professional, and best of all … PRESENT! As soon as the contracts were signed, and the initial checks written, they were ready to go. No delay means not much time to finalize things. You would think this wouldn’t be a problem after weeks of knowing construction would take place; plaster walls would be taken down and reconfigured; pipes cut out; radiators removed; roof torn off, etc. When it hits you in the face, though … it’s a different, scary story.

So – about this saga … the house was billed as a 3 bedroom/2 bath. What a joke! The second bath was a filthy toilet in the basement … no sink … no tile … and no t.p.! DISGUSTING!!!! The bedroom count was questionable, too. I’m guessing most of these townhomes are configured in similar ways – at least the ones we looked at prior to this purchase. You have to walk through one bedroom in order to get to the other – a bit awkward. After much thought and discussion (some more civil than others), we decided to relinquish the “three bedroom” resale point, and go for more of a “two bedroom with bonus area” … sounds good, right? Everyone likes a bonus – and maybe another legit bathroom would be more palatable than a tiny bedroom without access. The challenge would be placement and plumbing. Not to fear – Aunt Sandy is here! Thankfully, Mom’s longtime friend is a very talented designer – Spark Horse Design in Leesburg, VA. She can come up with a sketch in a sec … and she did! Stay tuned for coming distractions …
